AFC Futsal Championship: Qualification starts this week

With a three month delay, contingent on the floods in Thailand last year, ASEAN-Zone qualification for the AFC Futsal Championship 2012 are due to kick off this week.Hosting city for the ASEAN qualifiers this week is Bangkok, which means a home right for the Thais is guaranteed. Even if hardly any foreign fans are expected, nevertheless, this is a good opportunity to rehearse the case of emergency for the Futsal World Championship later this year. The tournament is played in two groups. Thailand is favored to win group A facing relatively easy tasks with Indonesia, the Philippines and Myanmar. In Group B Australia, Vietnam, Malaysia and Cambodia are fighting for two places in the semis.

With pleasure we would have put the schedule online in a very contemporary way. But, there were still some lacks of clarity about the participant teams. Now as things are cleared mostly we are glad to be able to present to you the fixture list on our website. Compared to the previous two years, in a new, more fancy and structured layout.

Muang Thong: Fowler leave and Mario Gjurovski arrives

Do things in a big way, apparently seems to be Muang Thongs slogan for the new season. After the first season without a title in five years the club increased his budget for the first time on more than 100 million Baht. With Adnan Barakat a high-quality was signed already a few weeks ago. With Mario Gjurovski the next transfer coup succeeded. If we speak of high-quality players, of course we do this it's relative to football in Thailand. In the case of Macedonian Mario Gjurovski this cachet could be even valid in relation for European football. In 2009 he was linked with Bayer Leverkusen as a successor to Toni Kroos, and was recommended to the "Werkself" by Dragoslav Stepanović. During the winter break 2010/11, Werder Bremen and TSV 1860 Munich reportedly showed interested in him.

Just midweek, Muang Thong lost the Thai Cup final to Buriram and a day later the management promised to throw money after first class players. They did not even hesitate and the club announced it's first foreign signing for the new season.
As the club announced late Thursday night on his official website, Muang Thong signed midfielder Adnan Barakat. Surprisingly it is not a big name in football. But his statistics offers a lot for a midfielder. Adnan Barakat is 29-year-old and was with FK Baku recently. It's the same club current Thai national team coach Winfried Schafer reigned in a six-months stint from June 2010 to January 2011.
