update 22 August On Monday the coming week, Thailand and Winfried Schaefer are going to start into their preparation for the World Cup qualifiers against Australia and Oman. A little bit earlier than expected Schaefer announced his preliminary squad. With his nominations he absolutely knows how to surprise.

Winfried Schaefer has nominated 26 players for the training camp which is to begin on Monday. Actually this is one more player than originally planned, but has it's reason and caused by bad news. Kawin Thammasatchanan, Thailand's current number one goalkeeper injured itself last Wednesday during the league cup tie with Chonburi. According to the doctors he will be out for at least two weeks because of an injury on his elbow. Despite that, Winnie nominated him together with three more goalkeepers.

Four weeks to go for Winnie and his boys until it becomes serious for them and finally Thailand's preparation schedule take shape. Singapore is going to be the warm up opponent.

After quite a while, Thailand's road to the first World Cup qualifier against Australia on 2 September in Brisbane is taking shape. Singapore has been the chosen one for a warm up friendly now. The game takes place on 24 August in Bangkok at Rajamangala Stadium and should simulate, primarily, Australia. 4 days later Thailand will travel to Australia and the early departure has it's reason. Wintertime in Australia, means cold weather for the Thais and Schaefer want to give his boys enough time to adapt before they face Holger Osieck's eleven. However, Thailand's training camp is going to be open from 22 August onwards.

On Saturday evening the preliminary draw for the 3rd round of the Asian qualifier for the World Cup 2014™ took place. We tensely watched the draw and the opponents Thailand may have to face.

Australia, Oman, and Saudi Arabia are the opponents for Thailand in the 3rd round of the Asian qualifier for the World Cup 2014™. Not really a tough task, as it could have become worth for Thailand. Finishing the group in 2nd place should be within the bounds of possibility. Of course Australia is the big favourite and they should finish Group D as winner. Nevertheless we are looking forward to those two matches against Australia, as two coaches from Germany will clash. Winfried Schaefer on our side and Holger Osieck on the other one. During their active career, both probably crossed swords barely. Although they are cloth in age. Schaefer 61, and Osieck 62. Oman and Saudi Arabia are two tasks for Thailand which may not be easy, but doable. Of course if there would not be Thailand's poor record in Middle East when it's all about to score and win.

Thailand draw against Palestine and advance (News)
Topic: Thai National Team
Thailand made it and finally finds himself in the 3rd round of the Asian Qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup. A 2-2 draw against Palestine did what it needs to bring the Thais into the next round. Now we are tensely looking forward to the proper official qualifying draw, to be held in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday night.

It was the 89th minute when Palestine went ahead by 2-1. Everything was on atilt. One more goal for the hosts and Thailand would have been kicked out just in round 2. However, it was Datsakorn Thonglao who equalised for the Thais in the 94 minute. We remember, in the first leg Datsakorn put a free kick on the bar and in the 94th minute Suchao Nuchnum missed a penalty for Thailand. This time everything fitted and Datsakorn left the goalie with no chance when his kick found the back of the net.
