2011 Toyota League Cup - Buriram clash in 2nd round? (News)

Though two games still need to be kicked in Thailand League Cup round one, the draw for the 2nd round already took place. Some interesting ties awaiting us. For the first time a derby between Buriram-PEA and Buriram FC could become possible.

Most games of round one were played on last weekend and produced some real upsets. Regional League side Roi Et United kicked out TPL side Army United after penalties, while Kasetsart overcame Osotspa-Saraburi even within 90 minutes. Further upsets were achieved by 3rd division clubs like Phattalung, Nan, Globex, Trang and Mahasarakham.

2011 Toyota League Cup - 1st round draw made (News)

This Wednesday the Toyota League Cup 1st round took place. After two qualification rounds, where only clubs from Regional Leagues played each other, the tournament will start to kick off with the 1st round on 18 June 2011.

In comparison to the last year there are a few rule changes in 2011. Even though Thai Premier League clubs to enter stage from now on, 1st and 2nd round of the League Cup is being played in a one-leg format. In 2010 all rounds, except the final, were played in a two-leg format. Lower-division clubs will have the right to host against upper-division clubs. The draw came up with some interesting 1st round ties.

2011 Thai FA Cup - 2nd round with two underdogs (News)

While the first round of the Thai FA Cup ended midweek, the 2nd round draw took place on Friday. Two underdogs fought their way into the second round, both coming from Nakhon Ratchasima.

Same as last year and similar to the League cup, the first round was played between amateur teams and clubs from the Regional League only. However, there were no real surprises except the 3-2 of Korat FC against Trang. Korat's Sport school team secured himself a place in the next round overcoming Pattaya's 8th School. Both are amateur teams or clubs playing their trade below the Regional League and considerably underdogs. The by far more known club, Nakhon Ratchasima FC from Regional League been kicked out by Yasaothorn United.

The starting signal for the 2011 Thai FA Cup fell on Thursday in Bangkok. About 11:30 local time the first round was draw was held.

After the 2011 season was kicked of mid March with the start of the Thai premier League, the battle for the 2011 Thai FA Cup going to be start at the end of April. Current champion Chonburi FC won the 2010 FA Cup Final defeating Muang Thong United by 2-1 in extra time. As well as last year, the winner will earn the right to start in the AFC Cup. In case of a double, the AFC Cup spot will be awarded to the league runners-up.

Muang Thong United against Chonburi FC. That's the pair for the 2010 Thai Fa Cup final this Sunday. The second FA Cup final in modern times of Thai football could become a classic.

The final between those both will mark the real highlight and the real end of the 2010 season. Considering that the two best clubs from the recent years will face each other, it is a worthy finish. It is not only a match you fight for a prize money of 1 ,5 Million Baht, League Cup winner Thai Port got 5 Million last weekend, it is also about pride and prestige.
