We are heading to mid-season in the Thai Premier League and the managerial roundabout gets in swing. After Winfried Schafer took a seat on it the last week, with Heiko Scholz another German could follow him soon.

Not only Slaviša Jokanović had to take his hat the last week when he left Muang Thong United. Also Chiang Rai United dismissed his coach. Brazilian Stefano Cugurra, who is nicknamed Teco. Between 2010 and 2013 he led Chiang Rai from Thailand's Divison One to the Thai Premier League and even to a semi-final appearance in Thailand's FA Cup last year. And despite finishing the league in ninth place and reaching the semis of the FA Cup, calls for Teco to step down by the fans where immense during last season. Banners with "Teco out" could be seen around the "United Stadium". However, Khun Mitti Tiyapairat stood to his coach. After a poor start into the current season, with only one victory from the last games, calls for his departure raised again and this time became even more vehement as before. Finally Teco had to leave.

Winfried Schafer is back on the sideline as a club coach. Only few days after the mutual agreement between the Thai FA and the German to end his contract at Thailand's helm, he was introduced as the new head coach of defending TPL champion Muang Thong.

What counts, is on the pitch and within a few days Winfried Schafer has switched its job. After the 63-year-old was booted out by a single-handed effort of the associations president, both sides finally agreed on Monday to terminate the contract. Almost at the same time, Thailand's reigning champion Muang Thong got in touch with Schafer and asked for his help. Slaviša Jokanović, who led the team to a season without a single defeat in 2012, was still in the office at that time. One day later he was not there anymore.

Topic: Thai Premier League
Chonburi FC caused a drum beat last weekend on the transfer market with his latest foreign signing. The 24-year-old Irfan Bachdim, Indonesian international, have put his signature under an one year contract.

The current TPL transfer window, open since mid of December, went rather quietly so far apart of a few signings like the Austrian Roland Linz with Muang Thong United. Now Chonburi FC caused a drum beat on the last weekend with Irfan Bachdim putting pen to paper. Already at the beginning of the year the 24 year-old international spent a few days in Thailand when being on trial with BEC Tero Sasana. However, he apparently hasn't been able to convince the persons responsible. Shortly after it he received an invitation from the Sharks for a trial during the "Chang Chonburi Tournament" which started on the 24 January and runs until the 30 January.

Thailand's early exit at group stage of the recently finished AFC U16 Asian Championship may have several reasons. With certainty one of them are the absence of youth leagues in Thailand with competition throughout the year.

The subject around the introduction of one or more youth leagues for club teams of the first three leagues in Thailand, which is indispensable for the further development of the football in the country is no new one. We have reported several times on the topic of youth football and just recently spoke with U16 national coach Leones about. This week, news reached us unexpectedly, that concerning of a competition for young talents things taking shape for real. Less unexpectedly the fact that an interest group particularly consisting of clubs, have become active from itself.

Sven-Goran Eriksson appointed in new role (News)
Topic: Thai Premier LeagueSven-Göran Eriksson

Sven-Goran Eriksson

As expected, Sven-Goran Eriksson was officially introduced this Monday at BEC Tero Sasana. Though not as head coach like most of us believed on Sunday. Merely as technical manager.

The news that the Swede is ready for a collaboration with BEC Tero, perhaps, even as a boss on the sideline and on the training pitch electrified parts of the football fans in Thailand on Sunday. It smelts of sensation. The greater the disappointment and disillusion after the press conference this Monday. The former England manager has not been appointed as a new coach, too many expected. No, at the end it is only the job of the technical director.
