AFC Cup: Can Chonburi climb the moutain? (News)
Topic: AFC Cup
In a game what can be considered as the most important one for Chonburi FC on continental stage, the club will have a mountain to climb. It is necessary to overcome a three goal deficit if the club want to make dreams come through. With several players injured, the situation is anything but good.

48 minutes were played when captain Pipob On-Mo equalized in the first leg. An away goal, what more could one want? The chances of moving on after the return match seemed rosy with the score line and an away goal in hands. However, it latest only a few second with Iran international Amjad Radhi, who already provided for the half-time lead, scoring again. Even a 2-1 would have been a good result for the Thai representative and they could have went optimistically into the game in front of their own supporters two weeks later. If only, well if just Suttinan Phuk-hom would not have pushed the ball over the line in his own net. A quarter of an hour before the end, Arbil, which fielded a total of seven internationals, succeeded a fourth goal. Admittedly, the Sharks did not field less internationals though.

AFC Cup: Historical fight in the old city of Erbil (News)
Topic: AFC Cup
A tough task is waiting for Chonburi FC this Tuesday on their way to possible AFC Cup final, facing current Iraqi champion Erbil SC in the semis of the AFC Cup. Though no injuries to report, talisman striker Cunha will have to sit out.

Chonburi had little time to rest after their historic win over Al-Shorta which have sent the Thais into the semis for the first time in history. The side had to travel twice across the continent in less than a few days. After returning to Bangkok last Thursday, the Sharks were off to Erbil on Saturday. The Kurdish town counts as one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. And who of you is interested in the history of the old Babylon, should probably have been there once. The local club Erbil SC, qualified as a league runner-up in 2011 for the AFC cup and at the end of the just finished domestic season, the club was able to lift the championship trophy for a fourth time in the history of the club.

AFC Cup: Sharks bite with Brazilian flavor (News)
Topic: AFC Cup

With Brazilian flavor Chonburi FC has bitten back and after two unsuccessful attempts finally reached the semi final of the AFC Cup. It marks not only the biggest success of the club on continental stage since its founding, it was historic for Thai football at the same time.

Ahead of the return match against the Syrian side of Al-Shorta all odds were against the Sharks. The 1-2 loss at home from the first leg and the almost cut in stone rule that there is nothing to win for a Thai side if playing a middle eastern club away. A penalty kick at the half hour mark for the home team don't seemed to make things better. But Ali Ghalioum who took the penalty tried to chip the ball into the net in a rather haughty whiteness, so that the ball  was an easy prey for Sinthaweechai. Of course a converted penalty kick would not have changed a thing here for Chonburi. Two goals had to go here, one way or the other. But now the psychological advantage was with the Thai side and they knew how transform it.

AFC Cup: Chonburi's way to a final on home soil (News)

A final on home soil?
image: thai-fussball.com

The draw to the knock-out stages of the AFC Cup, held on Wednesday, provided Chonburi with a good lot. If the Sharks can make it to the final, they have the right to play the one legged tie at home. But of course a successful quarter and semi final round needs to be played first.

Amongst the three representatives from South-East Asia: Chonburi, Arema Indonesia and Kelantan, five clubs from the Middle East were in the drawing lots. Though at the earliest we could see a regional encounter in the semi final. As Chonburi have drawn the Syrian representative Al-Shorta  which allegedly is the easiest draw of all remaining teams from Middle East. It is the first international season for the freshly crowned champion of Syria in club history.

AFC Cup: Pipob's goal helps Chonburi to advance (News)
Topic: AFC Cup

Bild: thai-fussball.com

Chonburi FC won its round of last 16 match against the Iraqi representative Al-Zawra'a SC and progressed to the AFC Cup quarter finals.

The, because of injury, doubtful Suree Sukha, Adul Lahso and Cholratit Jantakam were all lined up in Chonburi's starting 11. Skipper Pipob On-Mo was lined up as lone striker and he scored the only goal of the night. Just eight minutes were played when he converted a nice cross from Therdsak Chaiman. Somehow one should get afraid of the day when the 38-year-old experienced midfielder is to hang up his boots. He would not only be a big loss to Chonburi but also for the league.
