TPL Divsion 1 - two rounds left and exciting as never before

Thai League 2

We are the Champions

Just two game days left in Thailands second tier, and it gets really exciting. Not just since last weekend, already through out over the past weeks the TPL Division 1 received attention by the fans. While in the top flight nearly all places are set, in the TPL Division 1 still anything goes. Especially in regards of whom will gain promotion. From third to seven, only five point are seperating the clubs from one other.

However, the Champion is crowned already since last weekend, and it is Siracha FC. With a 5-1 over relegated side Rattana Bundit, they club from the east coast sealed their first title in history. Siracha just spent one year in the second tier, and kept their promise to bounce back. likes to congratulate the club for the championship win.

In 2008 the club gained promotion coming second behind Muang Thong United. But just after one season the had to go down unfortunate losing on head-2-head to Bangkok United. Even though having been better on goal difference.

Sriracha has no plans to move back to the Princess Sirindhorn Stadium, which they used during the 2009 TPL season. They will stick to the actual used stadium and the main gate of the Sriracha School Stadium is under already under reconstruction. It will be important for them to keep the key players under contract. Such as new national Sujarit Jantakul and the Brazilian Diego in defence. As well as Valery Sanou and the Argentine Gonzales Gaston Raul from the strike force. Sanou already scored 12 goals so far this season and Gaston hitted the net 11 times. The latter is with the club for three years now and was the internal topscorer over the past two years. His contract will terminate at the end of the season and he hopes to stay with the club. He is very happy here as he told us. The same is for Diego, and his Agent will come to Thailand soon to negotiate about a possible contract extension.

The new TPL kit?

Right behind the new champion, in second place, Khon Kaen FC is in a good position to get promoted. The Isaan club just needs one point out of the last two games to seal their TPL birth having 52 points on their account actually. Khon Kaen where lurking behind Air Force United all the time and just used the opponents frailty period to pass them. A year back, Khon Kaen failed to get promoted on the last day of the season and Sisaket FC eventually became the first Isaan club ever to play in the Thai Premier League. In case they really would be able to be promoted they have big plans in hand for the next season and money from new sponsors will help them to get Khon Kaens budget in shape. It also looks like that the board is having a clear vision how the squad shall look like next year. And probably we will see a young German lad playing in the TPL next year.

Relegated Nakhon Pathom is sitting in third after the last round followed by Chiang Rai United in 4th. Both with 47 points. Both and especially Chiang Rai were sitting in mid table for most of the season just to pass everybody and smell on promotion now. Whether it wil be good if Chiang Rai gains promotion remains to be seen of course. But Sisaket FC, making a walk through last season, and most probably will have to bounce back from the top flight. However, last weekend 8.000 people were attending the match against Suphanburi, and this at least shows how they are ready for the first league.

Air Force United, still the reigning record champion in terms of Thai Championships, went into the season with big ambitions. Nothing else than promoting was their target. And right from the start it looked like a two horse race between them and Siracha. But during the 2nd leg of the season Air Force just managed to get 15 points out of 13 games. After the draw last weekend against Nakhon Pathom they fall back to 5fth place. Air Force United even have to take a look back over the shoulder, as Songkhla FC is lurking just a point a point behind. Songkhla would have been able to make it even more thrilling, if they would have been able to win at Khon Kaen. With just a point behind and sitting on 6th place, promotion is still possible.

Last bot not least in the promotion battle is Suvarnabhumi Customs FC. From all candidates, their position may not look the best. Loosing to bottom PTT Rayong FC, brought them in a bad position. On the other hand, they will have to face Nakhon Pathom and Chiang Rai in the last two games. That means still anything goes for the club with the former Welsh U17 national Mika Chunuonsee.Everything is in their own hands.

At the end we would like to put a short spot at the bottom table. Three clubs are already relegated. Those are Narathiwat FC, just got promoted from the Regional League last season, Suphanburi FC and Rattana Bundit. However, there is still one place left. Actually this place belongs to Raj-Pracha FC, having 32 points on the sheet. But the gap from them to the eight ranked Chula United is only five points.

So there is enough excitement, promotion wise and relegation wise in the Thai Premier League Division 1. Turn all your eyes onto over the next two weeks.
