René Desaeyere was appointed new head coach of Chiang Mai FC. It will mark the second position as coach for the 63-year old Belgium in Thailand.

In 2010 the Belgium coached Muang Thong United and lead them to a successful title defence in the Thai Premier League and a semi final appearance in the AFC Cup. It surprised many when Desaeyere was released by the club last month. Since then there were roumours around linked him with Bangkok Glass FC. As it turned out now, it might have been only rumours. However, it is reported that Desaeyere signed a two-year contract with Chiang Mai FC, worth 500.000 Baht a month. With such a high wage, he most probably is the highest paid coach of all time in the history of Thaifootball.

During his long coaching career, he was responsible for club sides like Standard Liège, Royal Antwerp, Cerezo Osaka and Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma. His new club Chiang Mai FC, lost its season opener of the Thai Premier League Division One last weekend by 1-3 to Thai Honda FC.
