Futsal: National team touring Europe

Thai Futsal National Team Thailand new Futsal Logo

The new crest

Not only the Thai national football team is in the starting blocks of preparation for their big appearance at the AFF Suzuki Cup in November. Also Thailand's Futsal team will have his world wide appearance in November during the World Cup on home soil and the preparation takes shape too.

From 8 to 20 August Thailand's Futsal team stays in Europe while the trip serves as preparation for the worlds biggest Futsal event, the World championship. If one looks on what is planned during these two weeks, it is also a small reward for the performances which the team has produced so far this year. Beside the training and some test encounters, tourist excursions are also on the programme. While the base camp will be in Belgium.

As the Thai FA's contract with kit supplier Nike ended on 30 June, the team started his travel, in what can be called, neutral clothes. But one new thing could be discovered on the "official" shirts. A new Logo. So far the Futsal team used the same crest as the footballing counterparts, and altough there has not been any official presentation of it, it is pretty certain to be used from now on.

However, during the European tour, Thailand faces two opponents from the Netherlands and clearly benefits from Vic Hermans connections to Dutch Futsal. Current Topdivisie champion VDL Eindhoven on 9 August and FCK de Hommel on 13 August are the ones to take on. Right between those two fixtures, a game against Belgium top division side KK Malle is on the schedule followed by an excursion to England.

There, Wat Buddhapadipa should be visited in London and, moreover, virtually as a climax, the whole team is going to attend the FA Community Shield in Birmingham between Manchester City and Chelsea. Especially the visit of this match can be count as a reward for what has been achieved so far this year finishing runners-up during the Asian Championship.

On 16 August Thailand's national Futsal team is heading to Spain playing Triman Navarre from Pamplona, sixth of the Primera Division, the same day. Before flying back home, two days later the fixture against Umacon Saragossa will round up the trip.

The 2-week stay in Europe might also serve strengthening the 14-man squad mentally, because at the world championship one is to hit opponents who are used to delivering top performances every week in their respective leagues. While there have been no competitive league matches in Thailand since March and are not on the horizon.

Since the end of the domestic season, Thailand's top futsal players are almost left with practicing at their clubs and the national team only. Two games against a University election have been played recently resulting in a win and a draw. This University side, which can be considered as a national B-team, in which also some players of domestic champion RBAC are playing, will take part at the World University Championship in Braga, Portugal, this month.

The next highlight for the national team after her return to Thailand, are two games against vice world champion Spain, on 24 August in Bangkok (Nimbutr Gymnasium) and on 26 in Nakhon Ratchasima. Moreover, the long awaited World Cup draw occurs on 24 August in Bangkok.
