It's nothing to sneeze at. As a novice in the Champions League, Buriram United creates a buzz and defeats Japanese champion Kashiwa Reysol. Man of the day, Jirawat Makarom.

Buriram United opened his first Champions League campaign with a surprising 3-2 win over Kashiwa Reysol and bagged three points. With just ten minutes into the game the home team took the lead and it was Jirawat Makarom scoring the first goal of what turned out to be an exciting match. Jirawat swung itself up to the player of the night. However, the first one came by a low shot and while the TV was still showing a replay of a previous scene, the ball was in the back of the net. Kashiwa was not really shocked by the setback and created several chances. But, it was Sivaruck between the sticks for Buriram, who was there when needed.

As the clock ticked down towards the break, new entry Asqar Jadigerov put one on top and increased the lead for the current Thai league champion. The Uzbek was not attacked aggressively enough by the opponent's defenders and had all time of the world to scoop the ball in from outside the box.

At the beginning of the second half Kashiwa coach Nelsinho Baptista brought in two new players with Ricardo Lobo and in An Yong Hak. Obviously he found the right words during the break as Kashiwa Reysol draw level within 20 minutes. First it was Junya Tanaka in 55' minute who helped his team to draw one back before U-23 international Hiroki Sakai was able to equalize with a header.

Buriram was not content with the draw and now had even his best phase of the game with many opportunities. It was almost a matter of time till they would score and so it happened with 12 minutes remaining. The much cheered winning goal came by Jirawat after a great combination of play. Buiriams win is as astonishing as the fact that none of both Frank's, neither Ohandza nor Achempong, largely appeared. Jirawat already often proved in the past that he is a descent midfield player and he was not nominated wrongfully by Winfried Schafer for the national team recently.
One can call it almost a waste that he had to kick for Buriram FC in the second Divisions last year. Before moving to the North-Eastern side, the Khon Kaen born player, was on a four year stint with Thai Port FC.

Nevertheless, something we were disappointed about, just 15,000 spectators showed up. Actually, we had counted on an almost sold out ground. Finally, it was the first appearance of Buriram at international level.

In any case, the win against Kashiwa might provide impetus for coming duties. Already on the weekend it comes to the Kor Royal Cup (Supercup) clash with league runner-up Chonburi. One week later the new season kicks off, followed by an away trip to China only a few days later. There Guangzhou Evergrande is waiting in the second match of group H. Guangzhou has just swept Jeonbuk Motors, after all the Champions League finalists of 2011, with 5-1 of the pitch.
